Social Commitment - Materiality Matrix

Listen to our stakeholders improving themselves

• Recognising the distinctive features of their context
• Understanding the expectations of their stakeholders regarding the role that the company should play in this situation
• Identifying the priorities linked to ESG factors for focusing their strategies and actions

The process

The process has been divided in two parts:

1.Definition of the material topics

To establish which important topics need to be entered into the matrix, our company’s and institution’s documental sources were collected.
This range of documents helped create a snapshot of the situation in 2020 and identify potential emerging trends or topics. Thanks to a semantic analysis engine, we were able to establish recurring topics and determine the number of times these topics occurred within the documents analysed.

2.Stakeholder’s weighting of the topics

Once the topics from the desk analysis were identified, direct stakeholder engagement was organised in order to establish a ranking of priorities based on the opinion of the parties involved.

For each stakeholder category – both inside and outside the company – we sampled a relatively wide panel of representatives, inviting them to take part in an online survey.

The use of surveys helped to build the matrix by creating two reference axes:

•The company axis, obtained from the results of the surveys completed by top management, which represented our company’s point of view
•The stakeholder axis, obtained from the results of the surveys completed by the previously listed stakeholders and from the results of the documents, which analysed the average weight per topic, taking into consideration the occurrences that were taken from the semantic analysis for 30% and the answers given by the stakeholders in questionnaires for 70%.

Results

The output of the Materiality Assessment as a Global Materiality Matrix, represented our company’s interests and those of our stakeholders around the world

The topics within the first red square, known as the materiality area, are the material topics and therefore the most important ones for all parties involved. Within the second red square, there are those topics that stand out for their importance from the material ones.
